Soil type directly impacts concrete ballast footing requirements. Coastal sandy soils require larger concrete footings and deeper post embedment (36+ inches) to achieve 140-150+ MPH HVHZ wind resistance. Limestone and rock conditions increase labor and equipment costs for post hole excavation. Inland loam and fill soils allow moderate footing designs. The calculator adjusts the price bracket based on your selected soil type to reflect these engineering differences.

Post count is calculated based on standard 8-foot post spacing for most fence materials. The formula divides your total linear footage by 8 and adds 1 for the terminal post. Corner posts, gate posts, and end posts are accounted for in the estimate. For gates, additional structural posts are required. The calculator output shows the estimated post count so you can understand the material scope of your project.

The calculator offers four gate automation options: no automation, single swing operator (UL 325 certified), cantilever slide gate operator, and full access control system including keypad, inductive loop detector, and monitored photo eyes.
